Review: 2018 Nissan Murano

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2018 Murano comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, mated to an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission with D-Step Logic, which gives you the smooth ride of a CVT with the precision of a regular automatic. According to EPA estimates, the new Murano gets 21 MPG city and 28 MPG highway.

The Nissan ute is available with all-wheel drive, and can tow up to 1,500 pounds - just enough for small recreational trailers. Available accessories include a Class I Tow Hitch Receiver Kit, Trailer Tow Harness, Class I Hitch Ball, and roof rack crossbars.

Comfort and Convenience

The all-new Nissan Murano has five trims: S, SV, SL, Midnight Edition, and Platinum. Seating options include a 10-way power driver's seat, climate-controlled (heated and cooled) front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and leather-appointed seating - everything you need to stay comfortable during your commute. Also, the Moonroof Package gives you a one-touch power panoramic moonroof for just $1,420.

The SUV comes standard with an 8-inch color display, Nissan Navigation System, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sirius XM Radio, Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, a hands-free text assistant, Bluetooth wireless tech, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Options include NissanConnect Services, HomeLink universal transceiver, Intelligent Cruise Control, Remote Engine Start System with Intelligent Climate Control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Standard audio and entertainment include a six-speaker sound system, USB and auxiliary input, HD Radio, streaming audio, a Radio Data System, illuminated wheel-mounted controls, and speed-sensitive volume. The Murano is also available with a Bose Premium Audio System with 11 speakers and subwoofer.

Safety and Technology

The all-new Murano comes standard with safety tech that's only an option for competitors. Standard safety equipment includes Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking. Available features include Intelligent Driver Alertness monitor, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Around View Monitor.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the new Murano best-possible scores in all tests for Crashworthiness. Additionally, the organization rated its front crash prevention system Superior. The 2018 Murano has not yet been evaluated by the NHTSA, but the 2017 model earned a perfect 5-Star Overall Rating.
